Mini FAQ:
Q: Is it worth buying one? A: Yes, from any vendor, it helps eliminate costly baffle strikes and damage. Some people can eyeball it and be totally comfortable with it.
Q: What if my suppressor check rod contacts the edge of my can or is off center? A:
-
- Remove suppressor, clean threads and face of your barrel and can, reinstall to mfg's specs
- If you are using an adapter or shims, inspect for damage, cupping etc - for tolerance stacking
- Cheaper imported barrels may have non-concentric threads not sitting flush to flush fit barrel face
- Modern day barrels are less suspect, these barrels are generally within spec, but check them anyway as added insurance
- Confirm your check rod, roll the rod on a clean, flat surface, glass, marble, granite look for smoothness, no bouncing from a potentially bent alignment check rod
- Reach out to a shop skilled in machining or suppressor grade threading, here in CT we recommend JoJo's Gunworks
Q: Whats is the recommended length of alignment rods? A: Typically 15-17 inches, accommodating most firearm/suppressor setups. NDZ rods are 16 inches.
Q: Can one rod cover multiple calibers? A: Yes, within closely-related calibers (e.g., .30 calibers rod works for .308, .300 BLK, 7.62x39) Always match the rod to the caliber you are using.
Q: How do I use it? A: Unload your firearm, mount the suppressor to mfg's specs, carefully insert the rod through the suppressor into the barrel, and visually confirm equal spacing around the rod at the suppressor’s muzzle.
